Ever interested in what ‘feel good basketball’ looks like? Join the Tromsø Ravens for a Division 2 game and find out.  Player August Schirmer says, “We don’t have a coach, we don’t run plays.  Basically we’re a group of friends who decided to start our own basketball team.  We’re retired football players who wanted to try something new.  And we watch a lot of basketball movies.”  Schirmer says that of the 13 players, all but two are University players, and one is in high school.  Although the Ravens are not as structured as the Storm clubs, they are interested in playing to win and hope to finish in the top three of their division this season.

The Ravens play both home and away games, often playing two or three games in one weekend.  So far, they’ve lost two of their three away games of the season, but are looking forward to the season as they still have 11 games left.  Schirmer asks readers to ‘like’ them on facebook (search for Tromsø Ravens) as a way to follow the Raven’s developing schedule.

“We’ll have a Christmas game, probably on the 15th or the 16th of December, with a big after party,” says Schirmer. “There was a huge turnout for last year’s game and so we’re expecting it to be a lot of fun.”  Details will be posted on facebook and in Utropia’s sports calendar.  As for Schirmer’s favorite basketball movie?  The LeBron James documentary ‘More Than a Game’.  Keep an eye out for childhood friend Drew, who completely steals the show.
