Average concert from non-average artist

It turned out that Norgren couldn’t offer much more than at his last year’s concert.

If you were at Bukta a year ago you may remember the great Daniel Norgren’s concert at Little Henrik Stage. One year later the artist came back to the festival to play on a bigger stage – Paradis Bukta.

The singer-songwriter plays melodic blues inspired by an early American blues. He is often called “one man’s band”, and doesn’t usually require much musical backup. The concerts of Norgren are very intimate and rely heavily on his rough talent and ability to bring the atmosphere of a blues clubs to any place he plays in.

This year at Bukta Norgren played not only on a bigger stage, but also with two other musicians: percussionist and bass player. Unfortunately, the concert wasn’t one of the most successful ones. One of the reasons could be that Norgren belongs more to smaller stages, not because of lack of talent – he has plenty of that – but rather because of the nature of his music.

Another reason why the concert wasn’t a total success was that it was too similar to the previous one. Norgren played the songs that enthralled me last year: Moonshine Got Me and Though It Aches. He didn’t, unfortunately, come up with any more memorable pieces.

Norgren has an undisputably great talent and ability to move his audience. Hence, my expectations were pretty high. Unfortunately this time I left the concert a bit disappointed.
