The performance art has never been so close to contemporary dance.
On 28.04, the opening day of the Vårscenefest, Nuria Guiu Sagarra performed in front of the audience gathered at Small Projects. The act was a part of Low Lives 4, a global event that involved a live stream of performances. Tromsø’s smallest gallery was given the honour of being a part of the global performance art event.
Since Sagarra broke her leg just before arriving in Tromsø, the performance she presented at Small Projects was developed especially for the event. It involved dance-like, rapid movements that the artist made while lying on the floor. Each movement was followed by Sagarra putting a microphone to a given part of her body that would induce an outburst of unsettling music.
Sagarra’s performance lasted only five minutes and involved only the artist. It could have turned out to be too plain and unassuming, but due to her vigorous and elegant movements it didn’t.
Instead, it was a one-person, modern dance performance full of passion and meaning.
